The main door is covered with different locks and now you have to search the house and find keys and other objects to unlock the door and escape this house. But you have to be careful because Granny hears everything and if you drop something on the floor or walking on a creaking floor she will start running to the place she heard that sound.
You also need to watch out for her bear traps and other things lurking in the dark, like her pets, for example. You can hide in wardrobes and coffins but be careful that she does not see you where you are hiding. At the bottom of this house there is a garage. In the garage there is an old car. If you manage to start it and open the garage door you can escape that way.
You can protect yourself from Granny using one of the two different types of weapons you can find in the house. But it only stops her for a while. You constantly feel her eyes on you, and staying still for too long is far too dangerous of a decision. Locked away in various cabinets are weapons — a crossbow and a shotgun. These can stop Granny in her tracks momentarily, as well as assist with puzzles. None of the puzzles are too brain-bending, but with the tension of always being followed can cause you to panic — wasting the scarce ammunition the game provides you with.
Granny is a game with multiple endings, and multiple ways to escape. Do you try and find the keys to the car in the garage, or try to tackle the front door with its many locks?
Unfortunately, these endings are not all that different — and therefore there is little reason to replay the game. The minimalist approach is rather refreshing for a genre that has been slipping further and further into the action realm for far too long, but being so light on mechanics and features is a double-edged sword.
